Our rugs are traditionally used for Astanga yoga and recommended by Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, India today. They are also excellent for any athletic or sweat-producing yoga practice like Bikram Method Yoga. These decorative and tightly woven cotton rugs have been used for centuries for Hatha Yoga and are considered to be the first mats ever used for Yoga practice in India.

The rugs rest nicely over any Yoga Mat and most floor surfaces, adding extra cushion for sitting postures and better traction and stability for standing postures by absorbing perspiration and moisture that would otherwise make your mat slippery. (We recommend using a mat under your rug to keep it from moving on the floor).

Added Bonus: Woven lines in the pattern are guides for your hands and feet to help achieve correct alignment.

You need to consider this yoga rug!
If you practice yoga, you know how sweat can make using a foam mat very uncomfortable and slippery. I tried using a towel from home but its never big enough to cover the mat. The specialty yoga towels are super thin microfiber and both types of towels move around and bunch up. The Barefoot yoga rug works great! It's a little more substantial but not too thick (about 1/3 the thickness of my foam mat rolled up) and feels great to work on. Place it on top of your foam mat and it stays in place and feels so comfortable. It's a couple inches larger and covers the bottom mat completely. I use the larger standard size foam mat 24" x "72". No more slippage and my feet never touch the studio floor!

It's hand made in India and has the look and feel of a nice quality rug. The packaging is just beautiful and I especially love the colors the rug. Review by Wayne / (Posted on 4/17/2015)
Customer Review
I really love my new Masala practice rug. I am surprised at how beautiful it actually is. At first I wanted the Hampi because it looked better in the photo, but after receiving the Masala I am perfectly satisfied! Keep up the good work! Review by Craig / (Posted on 2/3/2015)
